The Lawrence SWCD was formed in September 1947. It is a legally organized subdivision of the State of Ohio, assigned under law the task of protecting and improving the soil and water resources of Lawrence County through best management practices.
The District is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors. They are responsible for developing the local program, obtaining and dispersing funds, and setting priorities. Supervisors are local people chosen by the public at a special election held annually. They are elected for a three year term and serve without pay.
Funding for the Lawrence Soil and Water Conservation District is provided by the Lawrence County Commissioners, matching funds from the State of Ohio, local donations, equipment rental, and tree packet sales.
The United States Department of Agriculture - Natural Resources Conservation Service provides technical assistance.
